What is Lipoedema?

Lipoedema is a chronic condition affecting almost exclusively women and generating an abnormal build-up of fat cells in legs, buttocks, and thighs.

Lipoedema can bring a number of physical symptoms to the affected area, which generally:

- is soft and tender to touch

- bruises easily

- aches

Along with the physical symptoms, some psychological consequence can result in a low level of self-esteem due to the condition.

Causes of Lipoedema

The causes of Lipoedema are not know. Having said that, it is acknowledged that family history can play a role as well as hormones (typically Lipoedema occurs during adolescence or following a change in the level of hormones such as pregnancy or menopause
